If the line after the selection is not empty, that line will be formatted and text may be lost. For example, if the following line is "*/", the asterisk will be deleted and the slash put at the end of the formatted text.

You need to find its configuration panel and enter a reasonable line width--for some reason it defaults to almost nothing.

When I tried to reformat block comments, it would put one word per line instead of filling out to the margin.
