Overall, I think Amazon is on the right track with this assistant - I have tried the Pro version via my employer, but I found it rather sub-par in comparison to other assistants I have used in the past (notably Copilot).
The UI looks distractingly different from the overall Intellij design language - especially the purple tones and overall spacing. I know this is a minor issue compared to the functional issues, but it does impact user experience.
Code predictions have, overall been alright so far - I especially appreciate the agentic capabilities. It seems to slow down significantly when generating answers.
My biggest gripe is performance. After installing the integration, Intellij began inexplicably freezing and slowing down overall, to the point where I had to force-quite it several times a day, sometimes several times an hour. I do not know if these issues were due to conflicts with another plugin, but Intellij started working perfectly smooth and stable again after I disabled Q.
Looking forward to revisiting this in the near future and hopefully giving a better score, right now I unfortunately do not find it usable primarily due to the performance problems.

Amazon Q is absolute garbage. None of the features ever work. It will say "im looking at your [file].js and I see: {lines of code}" The problem is it just makes up the code and explains all this stuff based on irrelevant code it makes up. Asking it to make basic changes results in it wrecking your code and telling you to change unrelated files/code. It constantly contradicts itself and DOES NOT understand context of your workspace despite what Amazon claims. It asks you to provide the file, which you can't because the character limit. So it can't access your files and you can't provide them, so Q just makes shit up and causes more problems than anything. It should be pulled from the marketplace and everyone refunded. It can't even generate markdown without you having to tell it 20 times to stop rendering it as HTML in the chat window. USELESS.
Can‘t login using pro button. Unusable therefore. Long error message saying something like invalid grant. 1 star therefore. Using alternative now. Might be i forget about amazon q generally. If you quickly fix this i might return, else it gets out of my sight and i lose interest.
Easy setup with a new amazon builder ID, and I am loving the code completion, and also use it as a chat for tech research and questions. It does a great job looking at what libraries and patterns you have to work with and generating code that fits what you are already doing.
I can confirm the issue with excessive use of CPU/battery drain. The issue arose after some time after install. In my case it was 2 days. From this moment CPU frequency climbed up to max numbers. The only way to normalize the frequency was disabling of this plugin.
The Q is helpful, but I had to disabled it because it drained my battery very fast. I sow that the energy usage is increasing when the WebStorm is open and the CPU is at higher level. I immediately started to find out the cause, and disabled all(but all, even bundled one) plugins. The energy usage was 0. Then I started to enabled the plugins one by one while I discovered that the Q plugin is doing something wrong.
In addition to the other valid complaints (unknown "fixes: in updates, ridiculous number of re-login prompts):
Simply enabling this plugin, while even disabling all of its features, uses a consistent 100 to 140% of CPU (macOS). No files open. No tool windows open. App is sitting in the background. What a joke! I thought FAANG companies hired only "the best". Complete trash. I guess AI is now sucking up power at the data centers and our personal computers.
I am not convinced Amazon is not using our computer's processing resources nefariously.
I don't care if it's "free". I'd rather pay someone rather than be thrown into using this dumpster fire of a plugin.
Constantly demands to be relogged in. Not just at the start of each loading of the app, but multiple times per day while in app. Horribly buggy and should be withdrawn from the market until this is fixed. Amazon knows full well how overworked developers are. forcing us to waste our time like this is just disrespectful, and Amazon SHOULD know better.
For how much Amazon boasts and markets this thing, it really isn't that good. Moreover, the frequent re-auth thing is really baffling and frustrating. IMO the tool is drastically over-sold; it doesn't live up to the hype, which is crazy considering it's twice as expensive as its competitors.

29.10.2024I am using IntelliJ gateway, the 2023.3.2 version fails to integrate with Amazon Q for some strange reason. Please make the integration better;
